PRINTER PROBLEM: Will hole at the top of my discount ink cartridge hurt my Epson?

I've been buying cartridges from 123inkjets for my Epson Stylus CX5800F for the past year. No problems. They stopped using G%26amp;G and went to a noname company and a different looking cartridge. The new cartridge has an exposed hole at the top of the cartridge. The old cartridges didn't. The Epson is a lot noisier with the new cartridge. The quality of printing is the same. I got ink on my hands for the first time which worries me. If the ink got on my hands will it leak into the machine? It's an all-in-one and major money for me. I cannot afford to buy Epson cartridges. I called 123inkjets and was told the new cartridges are gravity fed. Epson cartridges are not.

Is there a company that sells discounted ink cartridges that are not gravity fed? Should I be turning off my printer every day? I don't use it every day. How long should this printer last? I only use it to print text at a low volume.PRINTER PROBLEM: Will hole at the top of my discount ink cartridge hurt my Epson?
As others said using non-standard or refilled cartridges are not good for printer health. Also it voids the warranty of your printer. With these cartridges the printer may function well for some time but there is no surety.

About your present query about the new type of cartridges with hole - I would like to say that it is a non-standard technology. There is a hole in every cartridges but the hole is very narrow and also blocked with sponge to stop ink leakage. This hole is required to allow air flow in the space vacated by emptied ink. In your case it seems the hole is bigger and not blocked properly.PRINTER PROBLEM: Will hole at the top of my discount ink cartridge hurt my Epson?
Using a cartridge that is not epson brand will void your warranty.

You should always use the name brand cartridge. Yes the hole in the top can break the vacuum seal in the cartridge.
You may have had good luck until now, but third party, refilled or re- manufactured ink carts should never be used. You get what you pay for and that includes ink and toner for printers.
