Just bought a small desktop HP Printer and thinking about returning it for a laser. Is a laser printer better than an ink jet? If so, why? Are they more expensive.?
Depends on what you are printing. Laser printers have much higher resolution, producing crisper images. They also have a much higher speed (consumer laser printers can print a whole page in as little as 2.4 seconds). The downside is, most consumer grade ones only print in greyscale (not colors).
Up front, they are more expensive (a cheap one will run about $80-$120), and the toner (ink) is also more expensive. However, toner usually yields far more pages than ink does, so you will save money in the long run, as laser printer costs alot less (per page) than does inkjet printing.
Bottom line - if you enjoy printing pictures or doing crafts with your printer, stick with inkjets. If you print up alot of papers, reports, or stuff like that, laser printers are really worth considering as it costs less per page to print, and the time is much faster.
Feel free to email me if you want to discuss exactly what fits your needs. Is a laser printer better than an ink jet? If so, why? Are they more expensive.?
Both Joey and Anonymous X bring up valid points. I would add that the initial cost is typically higher, however in the long run, the return on investment (ROI) is better with a laser printer.
Again, it all depends on your printing needs and preferences.
laser:
pros: crisper black text, faster
cons: expensive, bad for photos
