Why do the ink cartridge for my dell924 printer slam both left and right side walls of printer? and printer y?

The print head assembly needs to know where it is so it moves back and forth until it trips micro switches on either end of it's path.

If your print heads are slamming at the end of the cycle the probable cause would be those switches. Either they are jammed, have somehow gotten out of adjustment, disconnected or there may be a fault in the circuits that detect and control the head movement. Why do the ink cartridge for my dell924 printer slam both left and right side walls of printer? and printer y?
Cant answer for Dell, but with HP printer there is what appears to be a clear plastic strip running through the back of the printhead, in fact this is an encoded strip which the printhead detects its position from. Have a look, be careful! just dust off the strip, see if it improves....
