Even the least expensive professionally done invitations are more than I want to pay when you add in response cards and reception information. So, I'd like to do it myself. Has anybody else done this?
This one is very elegant, but combined is really out of my budget. Bummer. So, links to plainer stuff might be in order. I will have 30 guests.

Professioally done invites are soooooooooo expensive for pieces of paper people just toss in the garbage. For a guest list of 200 people, we did our invites for $140 including ink!!! They have beautiful kits at Micheals which we purchased using their 40% off coupons that come in the flyers (if you sign up online they email 50% off coupons sometimes which you can print off as many as you want - I've been buying tulle all week for 50% off!). People could not believe we did them they turned out so well as they all know I am ';computer challenged';. The kits include envelopes, response cards, everything!!! Go with printing your own - so much cheaper!! Good Luck and best wishes!Did you do your own invitations using an Ink Jet Printer?
I bought a wedding invitation set that included the rsvp cards, invitations, and envelopes. You can get them at any arts and crafts store like Michael's Joanne's fabrics, etc or a store like Walmart or Target. They were fairly inexpensive and really nice. I printed the invitations on my printer and included a sheet with directions. They looked great and everyone loved them! Just use a really pretty font and a color / style to match your theme and personalities. Congrats and good luck!
Well, we used our laser printer but that's about the same thing. Our invitations were lovely; I bought the kits but added a velum overlay and thin ribbon. We addressed the envelopes using the same font we used on the invitations. I got the invite kits at someplace like Michaels and they ran about $15 for 15 - that included the envelopes, too. Very reasonably priced.
I am actually doing my own invitations on my printer also with a good printer with colored ink you can make your invitations anyway that you would like. My invitations came out really beautiful. Congratualtions!!!!!
I did my own...I found some Jean M black and white at Target.com then I got my accent color, fuchsia, and double sided tape and put them all together...I want to print my envelopes to but my printer wont pull in the thick paper...good luck!
I did my own. Bought the supplies at Hobby Lobby.
Chile' save yourself some $$$$ {especially in this economy}; and DIY, my fiance' and I just completed our save the date cards last night with card stock and envelopes we got at target, we brought them while we were finishing off our registry....
I brought our blank invitations and response cards from orientaltrading.com I think it was $22.99 for 100 invites/response cards and envelopes....
Like other posters have suggested check out your local arts and crafts stores, or your local target or walmart in the stationary deparment, they have some really nice stuff, or try best buy I found some really nice stuff there, plus they have the programs for your computer there too....
Our save the date cards came out really really nice, I cant wait to send out our wedding invites next month....
I too wanted professionally done invites they are so gorgeous but just as another poster suggested, the average guest receives the invite in the mail and takes a good look at it, and perhaps places it on the fridge so they wont forget or somewhere else, then after the event , what do they do DUMP IT IN THE TRASH, they have already attended your special day they no longer have any use for it, so why spend a bunch of money on something that's just gonna end up in the garbage {its sad to say but its true}; that money can be spent elsewhere on something more lasting for you and your husband....
And as previously suggested you can make them as pretty as you want them to be, that way they'll be more personable, let your imagination be your guide. Were doing the double heart theme, my fiance' found the exact same double heart motif on line that weve seen all over the net, he copied it and placed them on our save the date cards they look so professional and thus far its only cost us a whopping $13.00 of course a lil more when I begin to mail them out but that's okay it could be worse....
Anyway I could go on and on as you can see, good luck and remember DIY is the best way to go it saves money and you have self satisfaction....
God Bless, and Congrats....
I print my own envelopes all the time. (not for invitations, but just because I don't like my handwriting haha)
I do it out of my inkjet printer through Microsoft word. If you go under Tools %26gt; Letters and Mailings
Then you pick the size of the envelope, font....
BUT...sometimes it comes out crooked, and for 30 invites that could mean a lot of mess ups. But what you can do is go to a printer store (The one I recommend is Kinkos copies if you have them). Its usually only like 10 cents an envelope to print, and if they come out crooked you can make them do it again no charge.
Then after the address's are printed, add some lace or fancy decorations from a craft store. Like gold or silver lining etc. (try the scrap book section).
And Wah-La you have some envelopes just like the ones in your link. :)
I would also look in the scrap book section for pretty things to make the actual invitations so they match the envelopes.
Some links to look at about making invitations if you want.
