My Crazy Printer And New Ink Tanks...HELP!!!?

I have a Canon printer and the ink tanks are quite costly, so I purchased those remanufactured ink tanks that are less expensive. But when I installed the ink tanks -which are Canon tanks just refilled with ink - my printer said ';ink cartridge not recognized';. There is no wrong way to install them, but why - if it is a Canon ink tank, is it not taking? How can I get discounted ink that won't cause me a problem..

PS It is a Canon Pixma Series MP470....

Thanks! My Crazy Printer And New Ink Tanks...HELP!!!?
Printer manufacturers dont want you refilling the cartridges so they take steps to prevent it. There are chips in the cartridges which self-destruct when the ink is empty. Refilling will not help unless you can reprogram or replace the chips. Make sure you buy brand new cartridges and if you are using compatibles, make sure they include new chips (and a guarantee if they dont work). My Crazy Printer And New Ink Tanks...HELP!!!?
Not real sure about Canon, but I've re-filled my Lexmark %26amp; Kodak 'tanks' with those refillers (from WalMart). The 'do-it-yourself' type.

They work for about 4-5 fills, then the heads start printing poorly.

That was for Black only; never tried the color re-filler.
